Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI&WS) organization is searching for a Flight Engineering Manager to support the Mission Systems Engineering and Operations Department of Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Capability to manage a team of 30+ talented and dedicated engineers who are responsible for executing on assignments within the Spacecraft Operations discipline in El Segundo, CA

This management position sets the vision and implements the strategies for creating a center of excellence for satellite operations.  The responsibilities of the manager extend to commercial/civil and government satellite programs across SI&WS.  The ideal candidate will have prior experience and advanced knowledge of satellite operations, satellite Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) or related engineering disciplines, the skills and experience to build and maintain a world-class team and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

This position will manage the people, processes, and tools needed to provide new business support and cost model maintenance; lead Flight Operations Concept definition; develop spacecraft Flight operations requirements; lead Spacecraft Flight Operations product development and validation for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) operations as well as on-station operations for civil, commercial and government satellite programs; develop detailed Sequence of Events plans for readiness and mission operations activities; and execute spacecraft readiness and mission operations activities for the Planner, Flight Director and Spacecraft Engineer positions.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage the recruitment, hiring, staffing, and retention of engineers to meet program needs for flight ops development and execution.
  • Mentor and facilitate the career development of junior engineers.
  • Develop, manage, and enforce critical processes and standards for successful mission operations and provide technical oversight of programs and flight ops products related to readiness for mission operations.
  • Develop requirements and design concepts for Spacecraft Operations.
  • Examine the needs of the various subsystems and devise solutions to meet serial & simultaneous s/c ops needs.
  • Work with software developers to derive software requirements from the flight ops specification.
  • Develop, test, validate, and qualify manuals and software for the operation of spacecraft.
  • Support the Flight and Control Engineering Corrective Action Board.
  • Support technology roadmap and proposals for autonomy efforts.
  • Interface with the Customer Operations Support Center.
  • Conduct personnel performance appraisals and salary reviews.
  • Administer required company training.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 3 years or more direct experience with Satellite Systems Engineering groups.
  • 1 years or more experience with mentoring, coaching, guiding, and leading teams of junior and peer engineers within satellite operations.
