The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Painter to support the Satellite Division team in El Segundo, CA

The ideal candidate will set up and operates standard plating, forming and painting equipment, including automatic equipment under research, developmental, production or experimental laboratory conditions, to create metal forms and plate metallic and non-metallic parts, applies various standard and exotic primers, coating, and paints and material by the electrolytic, other plating processes and painting applications, often to exacting standards for thickness and coverage area.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Works from blueprints, drawings, sketches, planning, and process specifications, oral and written instructions.
  • Plans sequence of forming or plating operations. Determines required solutions, voltage and amperage where specifications and procedures have not been established. Uses precision measuring and weighing instruments to perform analysis of coating thicknesses of various metal finishing processes.
  • Lays out and prepares, including masks, prior to determining and applying a variety of standard and unique primers, exotic pigments and paints to satellite and other aerospace parts and materials including brackets, electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive electronic units, heat pipes and antennas. Applies by spray, brush or other means conductive and silicone based white and black paints, high temperature ceramics, gold, inorganics, chemglaze, polyurethane and epoxy primers. Often observes strict thickness and surface coverage area requirements.
  • Primes and paints all metal, plastic and graphite parts including the processing of aluminum parts through an acid etch in preparation for priming. Recognizes various types of metals and plated surfaces.
  • Perform experimental electroforming, plating trial runs or paint and coating applications in order to develop operational procedures and techniques.
  • Assists in determining configuration of fixtures for intricate prototype hardware to allow proper coating of surfaces where accessibility of standard anode or solution is a problem. Determines type or form of racks and hangers necessary and devises techniques of holding and suspending mandrels or parts to assure complete and uniform deposit on all surface areas being electroformed or plated. Improvises electrodes to properly form or plate small surface areas and contours of small parts.
  • Masks mandrels or parts where metal is not to be deposited by selecting material according to shape of parts, solutions and metals to be used.
  • Maintains solutions used in electroforming, electroplating and other processes at optimum. Analyzes, adds, filters and formulates new solutions as necessary.
  • Operates ovens, heat lamps, vacuum blasters, drill motors, spray guns and related equipment. Uses scales, and mixing equipment for the weighing, measuring and mixing of pigments and resins. Utilizes precision measuring instruments such as protractors, thickness gauges, calipers and micrometers. May work on scaffolding; operates material handling equipment such as pallet jack or cranes.
  • Assists process engineers in developing advanced forming, plating or painting techniques required for new space applications and in reviewing and revising process documents.
  • Records data and prepares reports, charts and graphs.
  • Performs incidental related duties as assigned or required.
  • Performs rework of the same nature and level of difficulty as described.

 This position is expected to be 100 percent onsite.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with performing experimental electro-forming, plating trial runs or paint and coating applications in order to develop operational procedures and techniques
  • Experience with operating ovens, heat lamps, vacuum blasters, drill motors, spray guns and related equipment

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. secret clearance Post Start is required.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Summary pay range: $27.93/hourly- $44.71/hourly
