From the seabed to outer space, you can contribute to work that matters with a company where diversity, equity and inclusion are shared values. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Position overview:

Are you ready to be at the forefront of the future of transportation? Do you have a passion for cutting-edge technology and a drive to revolutionize the way we move? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated SeniorSystems Engineer to join our team in Spain Madrid and contribute to the development of services for Urban Air Mobility (UAM).

As the world moves towards a more connected and efficient transportation system, UAM has emerged as a key solution. UAM aims to integrate future aircraft into the airspace, enabling safe and efficient transportation in urban, suburban, and rural environments. This paradigm shift requires the development of advanced technologies and innovative solutions to address the challenges of air space integration, digital flight rules, and air-ground synchronization.

The role of the Systems Engineer will be crucial in driving the development of these services. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing systems that enable safe and efficient operations of autonomous aircraft in urban environments. This will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data scientists, and aviation experts, to develop cutting-edge solutions that meet the unique requirements of UAM.

The development of UAM services presents a myriad of challenges that require a deep understanding of complex systems and a strong problem-solving mindset. From ensuring the seamless integration of autonomous aircraft into existing air traffic management systems to developing digital flight rules that prioritize safety and efficiency, the Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation.

To tackle these challenges, we are seeking individuals who are not only technically proficient but also possess a passion for innovation and a desire to push the boundaries of what is possible. The successful candidate will have a strong background in systems engineering, with experience in developing complex systems and a deep understanding of aviation and air traffic management.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with other teams in the engineering organization (autonomy, system, software, testing) to develop and integrate functionalities.

  • Collaborate with systems engineers to understand and inform functional and performance requirements for autonomy-based functions.

  • Work with software engineers to build simulation infrastructure to support technology maturation needs.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and document system requirements for ground-based services in the context of urban air mobility (UAM).

  • Design the logical architecture of the autonomy system, including functional interfaces and data flows, to support the ground-based services.

  • Lead the prototyping efforts to develop and iterate on the ground-based services, ensuring they align with the defined system requirements.

  • Coordinate with software engineers and other teams to integrate the developed functionalities into the overall autonomy system and conduct end-to-end testing.

  • Determine and validate performance requirements for the ground-based services, ensuring they meet the desired operational objectives and safety standards.

  • Collaborate with customers, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure the ground-based services align with their requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Master or equivalent or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.

  • 9+ years of professional experience.

  • English proficiency.

  • Existing rights to work in European Union.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address technical challenges in autonomy engineering, with a focus on DAA, Demand & Capacity Balancing or/and Traffic Surveillance.

  • Familiarity with the urban air mobility industry, including regulations, standards, and emerging technologies.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, systems engineers, and stakeholders.

  • Previous experience in the field of autonomy engineering, preferably in the context of urban air mobility (UAM) or related industries.

  • Understanding of autonomous systems, including perception, planning, control, and decision-making algorithms.

  • Familiarity with simulation environments and tools used for testing and validating autonomous systems.

  • Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate on autonomous system components, using hardware and software tools.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, or Java, and experience with software development tools and frameworks.

  • Experience in integrating autonomous systems with ground-based services, such as traffic management systems or communication networks.

  • Experience in defining end-to-end testing of autonomous air traffic management functions.
