Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Payload Design Certification Engineer - Associate, Mid-Level, Senior to join our Payloads Interior Certification team based in North Charleston, South Carolina.

You will work with our Interior Certification team, Interior Engineering and Subsystem teams, and regulatory Administration to establish technical and certification documentation for Certification Plans.

You will work shoulder to shoulder with the Interior Arrangement Engineering Unit Member (EUM) to review certification/technical documentation and author/show compliance to Interior Arrangement certification requirements. This position includes the need to interface with other engineering and subsystem teams, management, and technical staff to review all engineering changes and compliance documentation to ensure their compliance with 14 CFR Part 25.

You will be able to combine the expertise and resources of the interiors organization to deliver the best products within the industry.

As an Associate (Level 2), Mid-Level Stress Analyst (Level 3), or Senior (Level 4) you will have a minimum of the following responsibilities:

  • Create, develop, and control certification plans from initial conception until final acceptance by Regulatory Administration and the FAA.

  • Coordinate all aspects of the certification process with internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies as applicable.

  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and provides guidance on certification documentation, processes, and strategy.

  • Manage multiple certification plans simultaneously and effectively, meeting project milestones and aircraft delivery schedules.

  • Communicate information with different sub disciplines and teams such as Electrical, Mechanical Systems, and others.

  • Use tools including, but not limited to the Design Change Classification System (DCCS), Customer & Supplier Data Submittal Tool (CSDT) and Capto to create, develop, and track certification plans.

  • Interact with technical experts such as Design Approval Engineers (DAEs) and Engineering Unit Members (E-UMs).

  • Properly document and track project status, ensuring it is communicated to various groups and management.

  • Demonstrate solid understanding of certification flows, processes, tools, and stakeholders.

  • Work under minimal direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): 

  • Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering.

  • Associate: 2+ years of experience in engineering, including design, integration, and/or certification or equivalent combination of additional education and relevant experience.

  • 1+ years of experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects in support of key milestones.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):  

  • Experience in design, integration, and/or certification or equivalent combination of additional education and relevant experience:

    • Mid-level: 5+ years of experience in engineering

    • Senior: 7+ years of experience in engineering

  • Experience with independently developing solutions.

  • Experience working with and partnering with cross-functional teams on projects and initiatives.

  • Strong aptitude in implementing and sustaining project management best practices.

  • Experience with the FAA and/or EASA Certification process.

  • Demonstrated interest in continuous personal learning and development.

  • Working knowledge of standard business software (MS Office Suite).

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering.

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Associate (Level 2):

Typically, 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Mid-Level (Level 3):
Typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience).

Senior (Level 4):
Typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Summary pay range:

Level 2: $76,000 - $103,000

Level 3: $89,700 - $121,500

Level 4: $114,000 - $153,000
