Boeing Commercial Airplanes has an exciting opportunity for Plating Tank Operators to join our team in Portland, OR.

Operators in this position operate and monitor tankline to chemically clean, etch and plate machined/detail parts with plating (e.g., zinc nickel, cadmium and copper), to protect from corrosion and to provide better adhesion of paint to parts.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Check/screen baking records for parts that are in baking process, as required.

  • Obtain priority list from lead/on-line computer system, as required.

  • Select work from incoming area and work the priority, as required.

  • Obtain/screen work order (W/O) to ensure that prior operations have been completed and that parts to be worked matches (W/O), as required.

  • Review (W/O) and drawing to ensure that revision are current and up to date and that parts have been stressed relieved, as required.

  • Review (W/O) and drawing to determine what tankline process/recipe machined/detail parts are to be worked, as required.

  • Check parts for pre plate dimensions with precision measuring equipment (e.g., dial calipers, micrometers and bore gauges), to ensure parts are per drawing, as required.

  • Select correct processing recipe prior to parts being plated (e.g., emulsion/alkaline clean, glass bead and sand/vacuum blast), as required.

  • Obtain processing equipment/supplies (e.g., racks, hooks, baskets, wire and interior anodes), to properly load and secure parts, as required.

  • Review drawing, determine where to apply masking tape, plugs and other protective products too parts in preparation for cleaning or plating, as required.

  • After prior tank-line preparation work has been completed prepare parts to be plated with Zinc Nickel, Cadmium, or copper depending on process/recipe parts are being worked.

  • Perform correct loading/racking techniques to ensure uniform plating, better conductivity and to prevent air pockets, as required.

  • Perform zinc nickel, cadmium and copper plating operations, by calculating surface area of parts/racks conventional or imputing in computer to achieve proper plating amperage in plating tank, as required.

  • Document calculated area of parts/racks and log pertinent information (e.g., part number, quantity, date and time), into logbook or computer for future use, as required.

  • After correct amperage has been obtained lift parts into tank-line conventional/automatically with overhead crane and set rectifier/timer, as required.

  • Lift parts out of platting tank conventional/automatically rinse and measure/rotate parts to ensure plating process is being performed evenly/correctly, as required.

  • Unrack parts and check dimensions, remove masking tape/plugs and screen (W/O) to ensure that parts are to be baked or not, as required.

  • Perform the loading of parts in oven, set temperature/time and log all pertinent information, as required.

  • After all tankline processes/baking are completed protective wrap parts and send to next operation, as required.

  • Strip/clean racks/accesories, as required. Maintain personal and equipment certifications, as required.

  • Handle/dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner.

  • The following Physical Demands may be requirements of this job: Occasional Handling , Lifting less than 10 pounds , Rotation of head/neck , Standing , Walking.

  • The following Chemicals/Materials may be used and/or worked with, on this job - Frequent contact with Metals Occasional contact with Acids , Alkalis.

  • The following Environmental Conditions may be elements within the work site for this job - Frequent exposure to Noise, Occasional exposure to Atmospheric Conditions.

  • The following Personal Protective Equipment may be worn, as a requirement for this job - Frequent use of Face/Eye Protection, Occasional use of Hand/Arm Protection , Hearing Protection , Protective Footwear.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Capable of lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35 pounds.

  • Experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators.

  • Basic computer experience and competency.

  • 5 + years experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

High school diploma or GED preferred

This position is for 2nd shift.

Pay rates are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range:$20.00/hour - $42.80/hour
