Boeing Commercial Airplanes has an exciting opportunity for Wing Skin Preparation Mechanic B to join our team in Puyallup, WA.

Mechanics in this position prepare finished wing skins, spars, webs, chords, splice-plates, and stiffeners for storage/transportation and fabricate sub assemblies from wing components that are later incorporated into larger wing assemblies.

Position Responsibilities

  • Work assigned by lead or supervisor based on priority requirements.

  • Operate over head crane to move parts (e.g., wing skins, stringers), using slings, clamps, and other lifting and securing devises to properly perform required lift and move to work area.

  • Obtain appropriate engineering drawing(s) for assigned job, using on-line computer systems (e.g., Bold/Web).

  • Check part (e.g. stringer), for unpainted areas, ensure touch up with primer, cure in oven, as required per Boeing (BAC) specifications. Ensure part (e.g., stringer) matches work order W/O, production order number and drawings.

  • Apply ink part mark (e.g., part number, date, and shop) to meet Boeing (BAC) specifications. Locate steel stamped identification on inboard most tab to ensure work order (W/O) matches steel stamp before tab removal.

  • Ink part mark production order number on stringer per W/O, drawing and Boeing (BAC) Specifications.

  • Remove wing skin lifting tabs with tools (e.g., hand power sander).

  • Prepare detabed area for shot peen, per Boeing (BAC) specification.

  • Shot peen detab surfaces, per W/O and to meet Boeing (BAC) specifications, as required.

  • Install bushings and fittings into housing using pneumatic puller.

  • Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushing and freeze plugs, as required, per (BAC) specifications.

  • Roller swage bushings and fitting into housing per (BAC) Specifications. Locate, drill, ream, full size holes in part (e.g., channel vent, splice plate, and clips), in proper sequence and to correct size , per drawing, W/O, or tooling instructions using drill motor (e.g., Winslow, 90-Power Vane).

  • Disassemble parts and deburr holes using chip chaser, deburring tools and files to prepare for installation of fasteners.

  • Use solvents to clean surfaces prior to sealing or assembly.

  • Apply seal and/or topcoat including fillet seal to parts, as required by (BAC) specifications.

  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Install fasteners per drawing using correct tools (e.g., rivet gun and bucking bar, lock bolt puller, power screwdriver, C-squeeze, ratchet wrench, nut runner).

  • Check work after completion of operation in job /or completed job to ensure assembly is complete, per drawing, that there are on defects (e.g., gapped heads, high rivets, toolmarks. incorrect length fasteners), and the area around job is clean, prior to putting up for inspection.

  • Sell completed job or in process checks to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence.

  • Perform minor rework, as required (e.g., pick-ups).

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner (e.g., paint, sealants, and solvents).

  • Use precision measuring instruments necessary to accomplish work assignments.

  • Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.

Physical Demands

Employment in this position also requires walking, bending and twisting at the waist, carrying less than 10 pounds, flexion/extension, handling, lifting 10-35 pounds, pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds, rotation of head/neck, standing, use of low impact vibratory tools, contact with metals, solvents, exposure to noise, atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, hand/arm, ears and feet.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications(Required Skill/Experience)

  • 1+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools

  • 1+ years of experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

  • Basic computer skills

  • Fluent in both verbal and written English or Currently able to speak, read and write fluent English.

  • Able to lift, push and pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8 hour shift

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications.

  • 1+ years of experience with using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators, etc.

Typical Education & Experience

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary Pay Range: $19.00 - $42.55 an hour
