Boeing Brazil is seeking Mid-Career Systems Safety Engineer, reporting directly to the Safety and Airworthiness Manager, working out of the São José dos Campos office, to support the X-66 program.

NASA and Boeing are partnering to develop the X-66, an experimental aircraft designed to help the United States achieve the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The aircraft will have long, thin wings with a set of aerodynamic trusses for support, known as a Transonic Truss-Braced Wing. The X-66 is the first X-plane presents a unique set of engineering challenges compared to a traditional commercial aircraft design.

The Mid-Career Systems Safety Engineer is responsible for the development and execution of the X-66 Systems Safety Program Plan and works closely and collaboratively with the program teams (software engineering, systems engineering, design, integration, test and more) to develop safety requirements, assess architectures and designs, identify safety risks and develop associated mitigations, and verify final designs meets safety requirements and program safety goals.

This position is best suited for those with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to collaborate and perform well in a diverse and geographical distributed environment. Strong written and oral communication is also an important part of this assignment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to perform safety analysis activities consistent with System

  • Safety Program Plan and applicable industry standards (e.g. ARP4754, ARP4761, MILSTD-882)

  • Conduct and integrate airplane safety analysis activities (AFHA, SFHAs, PRAs, etc.)

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and validate safety requirements

  • Identify safety risks and work with program teams to develop and assess effectiveness of implemented mitigation measures

  • Develop program specific system safety and mission assurance relevant process guidance, training content, and best practice documentation

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Must have existing rights to work in Brazil

  • Must have a degree in Engineering

  • Must be registered or eligible to register with the Engineering and Agronomy Regional Council (Conselho Regional de Engenharia e Agronomia - CREA). Applicable to Brazilians engineers, recent engineering graduates within 6 months and foreign engineers when the employer is willing visa sponsor

  • Proficient in both verbal and written communications skills in the English Language

  • Able to travel both domestically and internationally

  • Experience with safety requirements, safety assessments, system safety analysis such as Risk Assessments, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), and system design or system integration

Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience):

  • Familiarity with industry practices like ARP-475 and ARP-4761

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Additional Information:

This requisition is for a locally hired position in Brazil. Candidates must have current legal authorization to live and work in Brazil. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.
