The Boeing Company is looking for Milling Machine Operators to join our team in Seattle, WA and Tukwila, WA.

Employees in this position assist/work with a variety of job titles (e.g., Machinists, Mechanics, Welders) in the factory areas assisting in the daily operations. Duties will include a wide variety of tasks not limited to changing out full metal chip containers, sweeping, mopping, filling coolant tanks, cleaning oil skimmers, dissembling cutting tools, moving parts or material using an electric powered lift, preparation of production parts (e.g., masking, sanding, part marking). Employment in this position also requires handling, standing, twisting at the waist, walking, lifting and carrying less than 10 pounds, rotation of head/neck, finger manipulation, flexion/extension, contact with metals, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye and feet. Visually sweep area to determine what needs to be done or obtain job assignment from lead. Review Work Order (WO) and drawings to determine work to be accomplished, as required. Obtain and examine manufacturing enhanced drawings (MED), drawings, tools, and Boeing specification (BAC) using on line computing equipment (e.g., part verification system), as required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Visually sweep areas to determine what needs to be done, or obtain job assignment from the Team Leader. Maintain awareness of the flow of jobs through the shop and process jobs to the proper location as required

  • Check oil and coolant levels and refill if/as needed

  • Move and organize shop material

  • Select machine accessories and holding devises (e.g. chucks, vises, turntables, templates, and tracers). Verify that apparatus is in good condition

  • Ensure that correct material (type, size, and quantity) and tools or fixtures are available and are free from visible defects. Ensure all prior operations are complete

  • Assist machinist to attach machine accessories, fixtures (e.g. coolant lines, air nozzles, suction devises), shop aides, and gears using dial indicators, edge finders, wrenches, bolts, clamps, and overhead cranes

  • Load and unload work piece on mill manually or by using overhead crane or hydraulic lift cart

  • Select setup and check cutting tools per set up sheet or application requirement. Ensure cutters are the correct type, length, diameter, radius, and are in good condition

  • Assist machinist in breaking down tool holders/cutters as needed.

  • Calculate and adjust machine speeds and feeds to obtain specified finish requirements using charts and formulas for proper machining application, or to correct machining problems

  • Run machine to perform rough and precision cuts using (band saw, conventional, and CNC machines)

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g. coolants, solvents, shop towels) in approved manner per Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Boeing requirements using personal protective equipment, as required

  • Monitor machine during operation for unusual vibration or sounds, watch digital readout or travel indicator for warnings, visually check cutter path, clearance, and chips to ensure smooth operation

  • Identify correct material, saw cut material to required stock size

  • Remove all sharp edges from part with a de-burring tool and/or file, as required

  • Assist in emptying and clean chip bins 

  • Clean organize shop (mop, sweep, clean)

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 6+ months of experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • 6+ months of experience operating power lift equipment such as: forklifts, stackers, pallet jacks and cranes

  • Willing to work variable shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

This position is for 1st shift.

Union: 

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary pay range: $23.00/hour – $47.56/hour
